About me

Welcome to Allyson Verkest Psychotherapy in Ontario. I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) dedicated to offering warm, client-centred, and collaborative individual therapy for children, teens and adults navigating anxiety, trauma, life transitions, and neurodivergence.

My path to counselling

My journey began in Child and Youth Care, where I developed a passion for supporting children, youth, and families. Over time, I transitioned into Counselling Psychology, finding my true calling in psychotherapy. My background working within the school board, particularly supporting neurodivergent children and youth, broadened my understanding and strengthened my ability to meet each person where they are. It taught me the importance of flexibility, deep understanding, and looking beyond what we see on the surface. What lights me up most is creating a space where you feel heard, understood, and accepted as you work toward a life that feels meaningful and manageable.

A warm and genuine session vibe

My vibe in session is relaxed, grounded, and genuine. I want our sessions to be a place where you can take a deep breath, be yourself, and never worry about saying the "right" thing. When you feel anxious or overwhelmed, we slow things down, get comfortable, and begin wherever feels manageable. Connection always comes first. Whether we are talking through life transitions, exploring practical coping strategies, or using creativity and play with younger clients, my priority is for you to feel safe, respected, and truly understood without judgment.

Trauma, relationships, and neurodivergence

I am deeply drawn to working with trauma, relationships, and neurodivergence because they shape how we perceive ourselves and navigate the world. Supporting neurodivergent individuals has shown me that there is never a single "right" way to communicate, learn, or experience life. My approach is compassionate and curious, helping you unpack how past experiences influence your relationships and emotional well-being today. I value individuality and connection, focusing on understanding the whole person rather than just looking at a diagnosis or problem.

"You don't need to have everything figured out before taking that first step. I offer a free initial consultation so we can connect, discuss your goals, and see if we are a good fit—with zero pressure."
