Helpful information

Starting therapy can bring up a lot of questions, whether you are exploring individual counselling for yourself or seeking compassionate support for your teen. Here are answers to common questions about my practice, session formats, insurance coverage in Ontario, and what to expect along the way.

Frequently asked questions

Here you will find details on how sessions run, payment options, and how we can work together to ensure you feel supported, respected, and comfortable from your very first conversation.

Will I or my child feel comfortable in therapy?

One of the biggest concerns new clients and parents have is whether therapy will feel comfortable and whether they will connect with their therapist. My goal is to create a safe, welcoming space where you or your child can feel heard without pressure or judgment. With children and teens, I may use conversation, play, creativity, or interactive activities to help build trust and make therapy feel natural. You do not have to know what to say, and your child does not have to be ready to talk about everything right away. We simply start where you are and take it one step at a time.

How does payment and insurance coverage work in Ontario?

Payment is made at the time of your appointment, and an itemized receipt is provided for you to submit to your extended health insurance provider for reimbursement. Coverage for services provided by a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) varies by insurance policy, so I recommend reaching out directly to your provider prior to your first session to confirm your plan details. A free initial consultation is also available if you would like to discuss practical details beforehand.

Do you offer virtual or in-person sessions, and how long are appointments?

Appointments are typically 60 minutes in length. Sessions are held mostly virtually and online for clients across Ontario, allowing you to connect from the comfort of your own home. In-person sessions can also be requested in St. Thomas, Ontario, for clients located in the surrounding Elgin County and Aylmer areas.

How do I know if your practice is the right fit for neurodivergence or trauma?

Finding a therapist who feels like the right match is an essential part of the healing process. I offer a complimentary initial consultation so we can discuss what you are navigating, including support around neurodivergence, trauma, anxiety, relationships, or major life transitions. This conversation provides an opportunity to ask questions, explore my client-centred approach, and see how comfortable you feel before deciding whether to move forward.

What is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)?

A Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) is a professional member in good standing with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). This designation indicates that the therapist has completed rigorous academic training and is actively acquiring supervised clinical hours, adhering to high provincial standards of ethics and practice.

What focus areas and concerns do you support?

I provide individual psychotherapy for adolescents and adults dealing with anxiety, trauma, life transitions, relationship challenges, and neurodivergence (including ADHD and autism). Every session is tailored to your unique strengths, pacing, and personal goals.

How do I book a free consultation?

You can get in touch directly to book your free initial consultation. During this brief call, we will introduce ourselves, discuss what brings you to therapy, answer any remaining logistical questions, and make sure you feel confident and supported in your decision to begin.

What should I prepare for our very first appointment?

You do not need to prepare elaborate notes or have everything figured out. Simply choose a quiet, private space if joining online, or arrive a few minutes early for an in-person session in St. Thomas. We will review confidentiality, discuss your current needs, and move entirely at your pace.
