What to expect

Taking the first step toward therapy can feel overwhelming, which is why I aim to make the entire process as comfortable, transparent, and straightforward as possible. Whether you are seeking support for anxiety, trauma, life transitions, or neurodivergence, we work together collaboratively at a pace that honours your needs and lived experience.

Navigating your therapy journey

Starting psychotherapy can feel intimidating when you are not sure what the process looks like. From your initial contact to ongoing collaborative sessions, here is a clear guide to how we will work together every step of the way.

What happens during our initial consultation?

When you reach out, we can schedule a free consultation. This gives us an opportunity to briefly connect, discuss what you are looking for support with, answer your questions, and review practical details like availability, fees, and insurance coverage. It is also a chance to see whether working together feels like a good fit, with no pressure or obligation to book ongoing sessions.

How should I prepare for our first meeting?

You don’t need to prepare anything specific—just come as you are. If there are particular concerns, goals, or questions you would like to discuss, you are welcome to make a few notes beforehand, but the first step is simply reaching out. From there, we take things one step at a time.

What does our first 50-minute session look like?

During our first 50-minute appointment, we will spend time getting to know each other and discussing what brought you to therapy. You can share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with—there is no pressure to share your entire story right away. We will explore your current challenges, hopes, background, and goals to build a personalised foundation.

What therapeutic approaches do you use?

My approach is collaborative, client-centred, and tailored to you. I draw from evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), trauma-informed care, attachment-focused methods, and narrative therapy to find strategies that truly resonate with your needs.

How often will we meet for ongoing therapy?

Session frequency depends on your individual needs, goals, and circumstances. Many clients start with weekly sessions, particularly when working through immediate concerns or beginning the therapeutic relationship, while others benefit from bi-weekly or less frequent check-ins as they progress. We will regularly check in about what is helping most.

What if I don't know what to say?

That is completely okay. You do not need to have everything planned out or know exactly where to begin. I am here to help guide the conversation gently, and we can take all the time you need to find your footing without any pressure.

What if therapy feels awkward or I am nervous?

Feeling nervous, quiet, awkward, or unsure is entirely normal, especially in your first appointment. There is never an expectation to act a certain way or reveal everything at once. We move at a comfortable pace where you can feel secure and accepted.

How do you support neurodivergent communication styles?

You are never expected to fit into a rigid mould. I create an affirming, flexible, and supportive space that respects diverse communication styles, sensory needs, identities, and ways of experiencing the world, ensuring therapy adapts to you rather than the other way around.
